Spectroscopic Centre of Excellence
Expertise and Experience
The Focas Research Institute was conceived in 1996 through a visionary and unique cross-disiplinary collaboration between the Schools of Physics and Chemistry in DIT (click here for more information). This unique idea grew and, gaining momentum, culminated in the award of €10.4million under the Irish Government Programme for Research in Third Level Institutions, Cycle 1 in 1999 establishment of the Focas Research Institute in 2004.

The ethos which brought the Institute into existence has never waivered and Focas now boasts state of the art facilities, concolidated through awards under PRTLI Cycle 4 within the National Biophotonics and Imaging Platform, Ireland, and the Integrated NanoSciences Platform for Ireland.

Our expertise in Raman, IR spectroscopy is second to none and well documented in the volume and quality of papers which have been published in the short period the Institute has been in existence.

We have resident experiments on all spectroscopic and microsopy instrumemts detailed herein and close relationships with industry have allowed us to enhance and heighten our national profile which we hope to continue and improve. For further information feel free to contact us.
